Mary was the daughter of George D and Mary Elizabeth (Cox) Huffman (F-6)

 

She was the sister of Effie Roderick (F-3), Emily Grider (D-1B), Edna Ann (F-7A), George David (F-7B), Daniel P (F-7C), and John Robert (G-7C)

 

Edna ann, George David, Daniel P and John Robert died as children

Harvey Smart was a cousin of Mary’s first husband, Charlie Ritchie (H-6A)

​

Mary, known as “Mate” to many friends, lived on a farm on Shake Rag Road after marrying Charlie Ritchie.  He died shortly after their marriage, and she moved in with Joe and Effie (Huffman) Roderick (E-3) - her sister.   She later married Harvey Smart, a farmer, and they lived on a farm north of the cemetery.  

 

They became the parents of two adopted children, Ross (Schlunaker) Smart and Fauniel (Bainbridge) Smart (H-2)
